South Head coastline and Sydney Harbour. John Turnbull_Marine Explorer.jpg

The Sydney Coast Hope Spot stretches from Newcastle in the north along a rugged and sometimes remote coastline, past stunning surf beaches to the metropolis of Sydney and its world-famous Harbour then continues south past Botany Bay to the wild waters of Wollongong. Less than 1% of Sydney's blue backyard is currently protected, an area under sustained pressure from development, pollution and human activity.

Yet it is home to exceptional marine ecosystems and many unique species as well as being a stop-off destination to many of the world's great marine creatures. Explore our Hope Spot heroes on this website and ways you can support a revived and healthy Sydney Coast.
